These
wooden blocks have been hand painted by Beans. They are his early
minimalist works. The important factors in this work are material
[the presence of], colour and space. The dimensions are also very
important in that it is square on all sides and it is to be accurate
as much as possible, although these are only studies. The aim
is to create an even finish around the edges [needs straight edges].
Beans has only just realized his interest in the use of grids
through the development of the basic shapes squares, rectangles
and triangles [which can also be interpreted as STOP, PLAY, RECORD
buttons]. The square mainly represents symmetry and buildings,
although it may be seen as a pixel. The circle is planets and
the sun. The triangle is pyramids and a prism of light, where
a prism creates a whole rainbow of light. Ultimately he would
like to be doing 3dimensional forms like pyramids, cuboids and
spheres, so this is only the beginning.
