Beans
has been working with wooden blocks using household paints - enamel,
gloss undercoat, eggshell, model paint, and marker pen. They are
his early minimalist works. The important factors in this work are
material [the presence of], colour and space. The dimensions are
also very important in that it is square on all sides and it is
to be accurate as much as possible. |

Some
of Beans products are made out of lightweight materials such as
foam board and polystyrene. The reason for this is that he likes
making models for 3 dimensional object paintings because they are
studies for light boxes. He finds that many building materials are
a continuous source of inspiration including plastic, glass and
aluminum which you will see more of here in the future. |

TEXT
LETTERING
NEW SOPEN |
Beans
has recently begun a new project which is concerned mainly with
grid and scale of figurative elements. This has been somewhat of
a departure of tradional image making techniques in that he has
come up with some more formal composition of text. Beans has recently
started on an indepth study of text analysing the characteristics
of the scale, dimensions and proportions of individual text lettering.
This project enables Beans to utilize many of the skills which he
has learned using graphs and scale. The masking of these images
to create layers of text could be very useful in logo creation. |
